Minister Michael Mahendere was born on May 28, 1983, in Zimbabwe. He grew up in a devout Christian family and began his music career at the age of seven. He was part of the group Mahendere Brothers, which released their first album, Mwari Mukuru, in 1994. The album topped the charts in Southern Africa. 

Michael later joined the popular group Pax Afro and collaborated with other top musicians, gaining exposure in his career. In 2009, he became a Music Director at the University of Zimbabwe and launched a Chinese Choral group attached to the Confucius Institute.

He declined a scholarship to study Music in China to serve at the United Family International Church, where he led the choir in the hit song “Makanaka Jesu,” which has over 1.8 million YouTube views.
