Bishop T.D. Jakes Hands Over Potter’s House Leadership to Daughter Sarah and Husband Touré

In a heartfelt and historic moment, Bishop T.D. Jakes has officially handed over the leadership reins of The Potter’s House in Dallas to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Pastor Touré Roberts. This marks the first time in the church’s 27-year history that such a transition has taken place. It is a move filled with vision, legacy, and a hope for the Church’s future.

Pastor Sarah and Touré are no strangers to shepherding a flock. They have  been at the helm of The Potter’s House campuses in Los Angeles and Denver, and they have shown a steady hand and a fresh voice in the ministry. Now, they step into even greater responsibility, poised to build on the foundation Bishop Jakes and his wife has laid over nearly three decades.

In Bishop Jakes’ own words:

“Today, we unveiled to the world a transition that has been years in the making — a careful, prayerful journey toward the future of The Potter’s House and our global family.

This wasn’t a decision made overnight. As a family and ministry, we took deliberate steps to ensure a balance between honoring our rich heritage and embracing the future ahead. When some of our family members relocated from Los Angeles to Dallas, it was part of a broader, intentional plan.

In 2022, the passing of the torch began when we closed the chapter on ‘Woman, Thou Art Loosed’ and welcomed ‘Woman Evolve’ with open arms. Appointing two new assistant pastors in 2023 was another stone laid on the path toward this moment.

Today signals our continued commitment to grow, to adapt, and to serve a changing world.”

Bishop Jakes also spoke of the urgent needs facing today’s society — from the steep challenges of homeownership to the growing demand for entrepreneurial support, and the importance of offering a spiritual home for a younger generation who are navigating a skeptical world.

“These aren’t just hardships,” he said. “They’re a call to action. A summons to build, to invest, and to make sure neither the wisdom of our elders nor the energy of our youth goes to waste.”

As Sarah and Touré step deeper into their new roles, their leadership marks the beginning of a fresh movement within The Potter’s House. Meanwhile, Bishop Jakes, through the T.D. Jakes Group, will continue driving initiatives that create jobs, strengthen communities, and foster economic growth across the country.

“Together,” Bishop Jakes affirmed, “we will rise to meet the moment — not just for today, but for the generations yet to come.”
