Her mother, Ijeoma Okwuchi, is a Lagos-born Nigerian prolific author. She published her first book titled “Refined for Rebirth” in 2012. The book focused on her daughter’s miraculous survival from a horrible plane crash. Mrs Ijeoma Okwuchi is also working on her second book called “Refined for Service,” which is a continuation of the book, “Refined for Rebirth.”
Life After Plane Crash
Kechi went to Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja, Nigeria. On 10th December 2005, she faced a catastrophic plane crash when she was traveling on Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 along with 60 of her classmates.
Okwuchi was one of the two survivors in the Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash that claimed 107 lives. She had a third-degree burn over 65% of her body, and the doctor said she had a 30% chance of survival.
Kechi was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, for immediate medical attention and treatment. Later she was transferred to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas, United States.
Moreover, she went through over a hundred reconstructive surgeries in that hospital. Okwuchi enrolled in the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, Texas, United States. On May 16, 2015, she graduated from the University of Saint Thomas with a First Class Degree.
Kechi was the student speaker at the Commencement Ceremony. Moreover, she also earned an MBA in Economics from the same university. Okwuchi was a speaker at TedxEuston, where she gave a talk titled Girls, Know Yourself.

In 2019, she contested in America’s Got Talent: The Champions, where Simon Cowell gave her the golden buzzer and sent her straight to the finals. Unfortunately, she didn’t make it up to the top 5 in the finals.
From that time on, she has been performing sporting events and other events all across the United States. Furthermore, Kechi Okwuchi was chosen to headline Utah’s 8th Annual Women of Worth Utah in 2019. Now, she aims to move forward in faith with music as her goal.
