Singing did not start in our time; it started right from the Bible, the Old Testament to be exact. I believe you must be familiar with famous Bible musicians like King David, King Solomon, Moses, Miriam and the like. However, they are not the only singers in the Bible. Let’s take a look at the complete list below:

List of Singers in the Old Testament 

Here’s a list of singers mentioned in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, the bible verse that reverenced their act of singing, and the reason behind the song.

1. Early Biblical Singers (Genesis – Judges)

• Lamech (Genesis 4:23-24): Lamech, the descendant of Cain, is known for composing the first recorded song or poem in the Bible—often called the “Song of Lamech” or “Lamech’s Boast.”
• Moses & Miriam (Exodus 15:1-21) sang the Song of Moses after crossing the Red Sea.
• Deborah & Barak (Judges 5:1-31) sang a victory song after defeating Sisera.

2. Singers in the Time of David & Solomon (1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Psalms, Song of Solomon)

• David (1 Samuel 16:23; Psalms)—a skilled musician and singer—wrote many Psalms.
• The Sons of Korah (Psalms 42, 44-49, 84-85, 87-88): A group of Levitical singers.

4. Singers in the Time of Jesus & the Early Church

• Mary (Mother of Jesus) (Luke 1:46–55)—Sang the Magnificat, a song of praise.
• Zechariah (Father of John the Baptist) (Luke 1:67–79)—sang a prophecy of John’s mission.
• The Angels (Luke 2:13-14): Sang at Jesus’ birth: “Glory to God in the highest!”
